Whether you're a first-timer or a regular — this is the one page with everything you need to know about Calming Concepts. No fluff, no hunting through pages.

Who Is Calming Concepts?

Calming Concepts is North Lakes' destination for premium, personalised massage and holistic healing. We're not a chain, a shopping centre pop-up, or a one-size-fits-all studio. We're a boutique, heart-led healing space run by Leah - a passionate therapist who built this business because she believes every body deserves to be genuinely listened to and cared for.

What makes you different from other massage studios?

We take the time to actually listen to your concerns before we begin. Every session is tailored specifically to you on the day - and we adjust throughout to make sure you feel safe, comfortable and leave with real results. No templates. No rush. No shortcuts.

Where are you located and how long have you been operating?

We're based in North Lakes, Queensland, and have been proudly serving the local community and surrounding Moreton Bay region since 2006.

Common Booking Questions

How far in advance do I need to book?

Our evenings and weekends book out weeks in advance — especially popular times. We recommend booking as soon as you know you'd like to come in. For same-week appointments, check availability online or contact us directly.

What should I wear to a massage?

Wear whatever is comfortable getting to your appointment. You'll be appropriately draped throughout your treatment and we'll guide you on what to do when you arrive. Most clients undress to their comfort level — we respect your boundaries completely.

Do I need to fill in a form before my first visit?

Yes — we'll send you a brief client intake form before your first appointment. This helps us understand your health history, goals and any areas of concern so we can tailor your session perfectly.

Booking Policies —
Please Read

We understand life happens. These policies exist so we can continue to serve our community well.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 48 hours notice to cancel or 24 hours notice to reschedule your appointment. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will incur a $29 cancellation fee.

What happens if I don't show up?

No-shows (where no notice is given) will be charged 100% of the full appointment fee. This fee must be settled before a future booking can be made.

What if I'm running late?

Please let us know as soon as possible if you're running late. We'll always do our best to accommodate you, however please be aware that your session may need to end at the original time to avoid impacting the next client. The full session fee still applies.

Can I reschedule instead of cancelling?

Yes — rescheduling is always preferred over cancelling. Please give us as much notice as possible to allow us to offer your time to another client on our wait list.

What if I'm sick on the day?

Please don't come in if you're unwell — for your sake and for ours. Contact us as soon as possible and we'll do our best to find a solution without penalty in genuine illness situations.

Do Calm Club members have different cancellation terms?

Yes — Calm Club members are considered royalty here, with priority booking and flexible scheduling. No penalties apply to Calm Club members who need to reschedule or cancel last minute.

Everything You've Ever Wanted To Know

From what to wear, to how often to visit—your complete guide to the Calming Concepts experience.

What's the difference between a sports clinic or shopping centre massage shop and a massage at Calming Concepts?

Your experience with us starts long before the massage begins. We pride ourselves on ensuring you feel safe and listened to from the moment you walk in the door. You are welcomed like a friend or family member to get yourself comfortable on our treatment table, with cozy linens and warm oils to help your body find a soft place to land. Our massage technique includes long, flowing strokes to calm the nervous system and promote general wellbeing — it feels amazing and is wonderful for stress relief. While Remedial massage is more targeted and clinical, addressing specific areas of pain, tension or dysfunction, at Calming Concepts, our Signature Massage blends both — giving you the therapeutic results of remedial work with the sensory experience of relaxation.

How often should I get a massage?

It depends on your goals. For general maintenance and stress management, once a month is ideal — which is exactly why we created the Calm Club. For chronic pain, injury recovery or high-stress periods, fortnightly or even weekly sessions may be more beneficial. Your therapist will advise what's right for your body.

Is it normal to feel sore after a massage?

Sometimes — especially after a deeper or remedial massage. However we aim to meet your fascia where it is at and not push your body to receive what it isn’t ready for. You will notice our therapists will ask you throughout the massage how the pressure is feeling and we encourage honest feedback so we can adjust to your preference. You may feel tender in the sore areas for 24–48 hours, similar to post-workout muscle soreness. This is a normal response as your body processes the sensory input. Drinking plenty of water helps. If soreness persists beyond 48 hours, contact us.

Should I shower before a massage?

There's no strict requirement — but for humans working on humans, it is preferred. A warm shower beforehand can help relax your muscles and make the experience more comfortable. Avoid wearing strong perfumes, fake tan, tinted moisturisers and makeup before your appointment. We have hot towels available if you feel you need to refresh before your massage begins. Just as for a hot towel when you arrive.

Do people shave before a massage?

Yes and No! We have ABSOLUTLELY no expectation that you should remove ANY body hair before your treatment, (ladies, you don’t have to shave your legs for us – men certainly don’t do it!) unless that is something you feel strongly about. We only ever ask that your body is freshly washed, especially if you are coming in after work or have had a busy day moving your body. We have hot towels available if you feel you need to refresh before your massage begins.

Can I talk during my massage?

Totally up to you! Some clients love to chat, others prefer complete silence. We take your lead — there's no pressure either way. The only thing we'll always ask is how the pressure feels and whether you're comfortable. Please let us know before or during your massage if you prefer to bliss out to the music and not be so chatty.

What if I fall asleep during my massage?

Wonderful — it means you're truly relaxed! It happens more often than you'd think and is a sign your nervous system is letting go. We take it (and your snoring) as a compliment.

What should I do after a massage?

Drink water and nourish your body with wholefoods, avoid strenuous exercise or mental exertion immediately after, and try to rest if you can. Many people feel deeply relaxed or even sleepy — that's your body feeling safe again.

Can massage help with anxiety and stress?

Absolutely. Massage is one of the most effective natural tools for calming the nervous system. It triggers the release of serotonin and dopamine, reduces cortisol (the stress hormone) and activates the parasympathetic nervous system — essentially switching your body from "fight or flight" to "rest and restore." Our Vibro-Acoustic Therapy also directly targets vagus nerve regulation for even deeper nervous system support.

Can massage help with back pain?

Yes — massage is widely recognised as an effective treatment for both acute and chronic back pain. By releasing muscular tension, improving circulation and reducing inflammation, regular massage can significantly reduce pain levels and improve mobility. If you're dealing with a specific injury or disc issue, please let us know before your session.

What is Ka Huna massage?

Ka Huna (also known as Kahuna Bodywork) is a traditional Hawaiian massage technique that uses long, flowing, wave-like strokes across the entire body. It's deeply restorative — working on physical tension while also supporting emotional release and energetic balance. It's our most luxurious offering and truly unlike any other massage you've experienced.

What is Vibro-Acoustic Therapy?

Vibro-Acoustic Therapy (VAT) uses a specially designed sound lounge with embedded transducers to deliver low-frequency sound waves directly into your body. The vibrations work alongside scientifically composed healing music to regulate your vagus nerve, support immune function, improve mental clarity and induce deep calm. It's ideal for stress, chronic pain, sleep issues and nervous system dysregulation.

Can I get a massage during pregnancy?

Yes — pregnancy massage is safe and incredibly beneficial throughout pregnancy (we recommend checking with your midwife in the first trimester). Our specialty belly-support table allows mums-to-be to lie face-down comfortably, which is a total game-changer. We address the specific discomforts of pregnancy including back pain, hip tension, swollen ankles and fatigue.

How do I know which massage to choose?

Not sure where to start? Our Treatment Menu walks you through every option. If you're still unsure, just reach out via our contact form — Leah is happy to recommend the right treatment based on your goals and what's going on in your body.
